Republican gubernatorial candidate Allen Weh raised $691,003 from Oct. 1 to April 5, with the bulk of it – $500,000 – coming as a loan from Weh to his campaign.
That’s according to The Associated Press. Weh’s report isn’t online, and his campaign did not respond to two e-mails from NMPolitics.net seeking a copy of the report or at least the summary sheet.
Weh had previously loaned his campaign $250,000, so his total self-financing is up to $750,000.
His campaign spent $519,026 and ended the reporting period with $544,142 on hand, the news service reported. He also reported $48,843 in in-kind contributions.
The Weh campaign focused in a news release on the total amount Weh has raised since entering the race in July, not the amount he raised during the last reporting period. The release said he’s received donations from 1,300 people, with more than half of them from outside Albuquerque. 1,000 of those donations have been for $100 or less.
“This is the campaign of, and for, the people, and it really showed in this last report in the large number of small contributors,” Weh said. “We know it’s going to take millions of dollars and an army of volunteers to defeat Diane Denish in November, but we intend to do just that.”
Earlier today, Weh’s primary opponent Susana Martinez reported that she raised $428,064.67 from Oct. 1 to April 5. Another opponent, Doug Turner reported raising $400,771.90 – with $198,745.92 of that coming as loans from Turner to his campaign. Republican gubernatorial candidate Pete Domenici Jr. raised $372,107.77, which included a $70,000 loan from himself to his campaign.
And the last GOP gubernatorial candidate, Janice Arnold-Jones, reported that she had raised a little more than $110,000 in financial contributions and had another $54,193.79 in loans, for a total of more than $164,000 in fundraising.
Denish raised more than $1.1 million during the reporting period.
