Public Regulation Commissioner Carol Sloan reportedly doesn’t plan to resign from her job at this point despite being convicted of two felonies that make her ineligible to run for re-election in November.
Sloan hasn’t said publicly that she won’t resign. But the Albuquerque Journal is quoting Public Regulation Commissioner David King as saying he spoke with Sloan, and she told him she “intends to stay on at this point.”
The state Democratic and Republican parties and Lt. Gov. Diane Denish have called for the immediate resignation of Sloan, a Democrat.
Sloan was convicted last week of aggravated battery and aggravated burglary for attacking another woman with a rock because she believed the woman was having an affair with her husband.
Under state law, Sloan isn’t required to resign because of her felony conviction, but she can’t seek re-election. Sloan plans to appeal her conviction.
