Former House Minority Leader Ted Hobbs dies

Ted Hobbs, a Republican from Albuquerque who served as minority leader in the state House, died Sunday at age 75.

Hobbs served in the Legislature from 1995-2007. You can read his obituary from the Albuquerque Journal.

Current House Minority Leader Tom Taylor, R-Farmington, remembered Hobbs as “a respected colleague and great example to many of us in the Legislature.”

“Although Ted was a passionate Republican, he was always willing to bridge partisan divides to improve the lives of all New Mexicans,” Taylor said. “On behalf of the entire Republican caucus, I extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

State GOP Chairman Harvey Yates called Hobbs “a great advocate for commonsense principles.”

“His commitment to his constituents and his leadership in the Roundhouse will be long remembered,” Yates said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hobbs family during this time.”

Hobbs worked for IBM for 36 years and was a member of the U.S. Army.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at French Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE in Albuquerque.
