Residents of Mesquite and surrounding areas in southern Doña Ana County will get a chance to meet with a group of senators that include some of the most influential politicians in the state this evening.
Senate President Pro Tem Tim Jennings, D-Roswell, and Senate Finance Chairman John Arthur Smith, D-Deming, are among those who will be in attendance at the community meeting, which is being held at 5:30 p.m. at the volunteer fire station in Mesquite. It’s located at 1 Firehouse Road.
That’s according to Arturo Uribe, a south valley activist and community organizer. He said Sen. Mary Kay Papen, D-Las Cruces, will also be in attendance, and Sens. Cynthia Nava, D-Las Cruces, and Howie Morales, D-Silver City, might come.
The meeting follows a special session in which lawmakers approved a budget compromise that included cuts and tax increases. Uribe said those are among the issues that will be discussed.
