Early voting is already underway in an election in which residents of Anthony, N.M. will decide whether to incorporate.
An informational meeting will be held Wednesday to educate residents about the tax implications and other important issues.
Election Day is Jan. 5, and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on that day. This week, early voting is underway from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the clerk’s office at the Doña Ana County Government Center, 845 North Motel Blvd. in Las Cruces.
Starting next week, early voting will also be held during regular business hours at the Anthony Water and Sanitation District office, 1155 North 4th Street in Anthony. Early voting is also being held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and again on Jan. 2 at the Las Cruces and Anthony locations, and on Dec. 26 only at the Anthony location.
On Election Day, the water and sanitation district office and Anthony Elementary School, 609 Church St. in Anthony, will serve as polling places.
Wednesday’s meeting, organized by a group of citizens, is informational only. County Assessor Gary Perez and officials from the clerk’s office will be on hand to present information about the implications of incorporation and answer questions.
“A map of the proposed boundary lines will be made available and tax implications will be clarified,” a news release about the meeting states.
The meeting is not organized by the county officials, who are attending because they were invited.
The meeting will be held in the library at Anthony Elementary beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
