If the early vote is any indication of how the overall vote is going to come out, Richard Berry just might avoid a runoff and become Albuquerque’s next mayor.
With early votes tallied, Berry has 4,460 votes, or 40.85 percent. To avoid a runoff, a candidate must get 40 percent of the vote tonight.
Incumbent Martin Chávez is in second with 3,842 votes, or 35.19 percent. Richard Romero is in third with 2,594 votes, or 23.76 percent.
Absentee votes and votes cast earlier today have yet to be counted. This race is still way up in the air.
