Former state GOP chairman Allen Weh will formally enter the governor’s race on Tuesday, he announced today.
Weh made the announcement with a video on YouTube and an invitation sent out on Facebook.
The event begins at noon Tuesday in the atrium at the student union building at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
“Join me as I announce my candidacy for governor of the great state of New Mexico,” Weh’s invitation states.
Here’s the YouTube video:
Weh has been campaigning for governor since he formed an exploratory committee in May. Last week, he beefed up his staff and began calling himself a “likely” candidate.
The Republican field is crowded. Doña Ana County District Attorney Susana Martinez and state Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones have already entered the race. Public relations professional Doug Turner appears to be about to formally jump into the race.
And former U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M., says she’s thinking about running.
On the Democratic side, the only announced candidate is Lt. Gov. Diane Denish.
