Gov. Bill Richardson, who has been negotiating budget proposals with state lawmakers ahead of next month’s likely special session, is in Kuala Lampur today.
Richardson was invited to speak to 400 chief executive officers at the Forbes Global CEO Conference. While there, he will participate along with Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour in a special “Meeting of the Minds” dialogue mediated by Steve Forbes, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
The group will discuss the political scene in Washington during the past 12 months amid economic downturn.
Specifically, Richardson plans to share his thoughts about how the economic downturn has affected the New Mexico. And he’s planning to discuss the need for health-care reform at the national level, and the implications for states like New Mexico.
A statement released by the governor’s office indicates Richardson will also meet with CEOs from several Asian companies during the conference.
Richardson has a longstanding relationship with Forbes, who has visited New Mexico at Richardson’s request and featured New Mexico in his magazine. Richardson has also participated in other Forbes conferences in the past.
Forbes conference organizers are footing the bill for the governor’s trip, the release states.
Richardson is expected to return to New Mexico Thursday.
