Voters in unincorporated areas of Doña Ana County have approved the continuation of a 1/4 percent sales tax that supports the county’s volunteer fire departments and ambulance service.
From the Las Cruces Sun-News:
“In all, 482 voters (86 percent) favored the measure, while 84 opposed it (15 percent), according to unofficial results from the county clerk’s office.
“Turnout was only 1.35 percent; 566 residents cast ballots out of the 41,802 who were eligible.
“No votes were cast at three polling locations — Camino Real Middle School, University Hills Elementary School and the Las Cruces Country Club.”
No votes? Wow…
To be fair, residents of the City of Las Cruces, the Village of Hatch, the Town of Mesilla and the City of Sunland Park were not eligible to vote in this election, and those three polling locations were in Las Cruces.
