Early voting starts Tuesday in county tax election

Early voting starts Tuesday in Doña Ana County in a special, Sept. 22 election on whether to continue a 1/4 percent sales tax that supports the county’s volunteer fire department.

Early voting will last from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays through Sept. 18, and will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to a news release from the county. All early voting will be done at the Doña Ana County Government Center.

The deadline to register to vote in the Sept. 22 election is 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The deadline to request an absentee ballot has already passed.

Residents of the City of Las Cruces, the Village of Hatch, the Town of Mesilla and the City of Sunland Park are not eligible to vote in this election. Only voters whose registered addresses are in unincorporated areas of the county will be allowed to cast votes.
