Rep. Campos says his ‘train’s not going to stop’

I caught up last week with lieutenant governor candidate Jose Campos, a Democratic state representative from Santa Rosa. He was in Las Cruces on a campaign trip and made a stop at U.S. Rep. Harry Teague’s town-hall meeting on health-care reform.

Campos and I talked briefly about how he may be able to gain some traction in a crowded primary because he’s the only candidate thus far who’s not from the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area. And Campos had this to say:

“We’re hitting it. We’re going from here up to Silver City,” he said. “… This train’s not going to stop.”

The others in the race are former state Democratic Party Chairman Brian Colón, Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano, state Sens. Linda Lopez and Gerald Ortiz y Pino of Albuquerque and Lawrence Rael, executive director of the Mid-Region Council of Governments.

In addition, Matthew Padilla, a law student and former U.S. Navy officer, and Española Mayor Joseph Maestas say they are considering running.
