The county released statistics today on the number of people eligible to vote in the upcoming Nov. 4 election. The number of new registered voters since 2004 — 27,307 — accounts for more than 25 percent of the total number of people registered to vote in the county.
The biggest gain has been among independents and people who declined to state a party affiliation. That group went from accounting for 15 percent of registered voters in the county in 2004 to currently being almost 22 percent of the total number of registered voters.
Democrats now make up 49 percent of the county’s registered voters, and Republicans account for 28 percent. People registered in other political parties make up less than 1 percent.
