Some Doña Ana County races are too close to call

With 116 of 117 precincts reporting but 0.9 percent of the vote yet to be counted and provisional ballots yet to be considered, several races in Doña Ana County remain too close to call.

In the Democratic county treasurer primary, Jill Johnson is leading David Gutierrez by 51 votes, 4,125 to 4,074. In the Democratic county clerk primary, Lynn Ellins is leading Rita Torres by 212 votes, 2,927 to 2,715, with two other candidates trailing behind them. And in the Republican county commission District 4 race, Doyle Pruitt is leading Anna Mae Evans by 43 votes, 936 to 893.

Meanwhile, several other races are over. Senate Majority Whip Mary Jane Garcia easily defeated challenger Oscar Vásquez Butler tonight, with 1,869 votes to Butler’s 882 votes. And Democratic state Rep. Joni Gutierrez also won easily against challenger Jesus Caro, with 1,208 votes to Caro’s 480.

In the Republican state representative District 53 primary, Stanford Locke easily defeated Thomas Fry, with a combined result from Doña Ana and Otero counties of 607 votes for Locke to 368 votes for Fry.

In the county commission District 2 race, Dolores Saldaña-Caviness appeared to be on her way to re-election, with 295 votes to 191 for challenger Alicia Roman and 166 for challenger Alfonso Moreno. In the county commission District 5 race, Leticia Duarte Benavidez won with 1,088 votes to Vince Romero’s 803 votes.

And in the magistrate judge race, Kent Wingenroth appeared on his way to re-election. He had 3,452 votes to 2,876 for Maria Rodriguez, with two other candidates trailing behind them.
