Communication workers’ union backs Teague

The New Mexico Communication Workers of America has announced its endorsement of Harry Teague in the Second Congressional District race.

Though the union’s leadership voted unanimously on Feb. 1 to endorse Teague, the decision wasn’t announced until Wednesday.

“Our New Mexico CWA Locals want to thank you for your energy and commitment to working families in New Mexico,” the union stated in a letter to the Teague campaign. “We wholeheartedly look forward to your firm support of the Employee Free Choice Act and ongoing efforts to improve access to health care. New Mexico deserves a congressman who has the courage to do what’s right, and who has the integrity and experience we can trust to support working families in New Mexico.”

Teague, a Democrat, said he was “honored to have received the support of this outstanding group of hardworking New Mexicans.”

“The CWA works tirelessly at fighting on behalf of its members, and I look forward to working with them to improve the lives of working families all across Southern New Mexico,” he said in the release.

I cover the CD2 race more intimately than the state’s other congressional races, and I generally haven’t written about endorsements in the others, but I thought it was worth noting that CWA has also endorsed Martin Heinrich in the First Congressional District race and Ben R. Luján in the Third Congressional District race.
