U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce, R-N.M., raised $70,000 on Friday evening for his 2008 re-election bid, the Roswell Daily Record is reporting.
The Roswell fundraiser was attended by about 100 people, the newspaper reported. The cash will provide a boost to Pearce’s campaign as the end of the third quarter approaches on Sept. 30. Candidates have to file finance reports for the quarter by Oct. 15.
During the last quarter, Pearce raised $245,000, spent $60,000 and ended with $383,000 on hand. Democratic challenger Bill McCamley raised $140,000, spent about $6,000, and had just over $133,000 on hand. And Democratic challenger Al Kissling raised $10,445, spent about $6,600 and had $5,584 on hand.
I reported last week on the fact that one of the co-hosts of the Roswell event was causing some raised eyebrows in GOP circles because she is currently in a pre-prosecutorial diversion program after admitting to voter fraud earlier this year. That fact gained some attention from the television station KRQE News 13 in Albuquerque.
