The new chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico has decided to seek applicants for the position of executive director.
The current director, Matt Farrauto, can reapply, but others can also seek the job.
Party Chair Brian Colón announced the job posting in an e-mail Wednesday evening. The job description and more information can be found here.
Farrauto has been executive director for 18 months and was communications director for 18 months before that, but it’s not unusual for a new party chair to bring in a new director.
Farrauto said he is considering his options as the search process moves forward.
“For me, even if this job ends today, I think that I (and all the people I’ve worked with over the last three years) will have a lot to be proud of, both personally and professionally,” he wrote in an e-mail. “However, I’m not privy to the chairman’s thoughts on the position, nor do I know who he wants to serve in it.”
Colón couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
One Democrat mentioned as a possible replacement is Art Terrazas of Anthony. He’s the son of former Doña Ana County Commissioner Arturo Terrazas, who had a controversial tenure on the commission.
Art Terrazas has built a strong reputation in the party, however. He is currently vice chair of the Doña Ana County Democratic Party and was a big supporter of Colón’s bid to become party chair. Terrazas worked on the 2004 Kerry/Edwards campaign.
Terrazas could not immediately be reached for comment.
A prior version of this posting incorrectly stated that Farrauto is definitely going to apply to keep his job.
