It’s looking increasingly unlikely that spaceport tax opponents will win the election.
Elections workers are flying through the tallying of provisional ballots. So far, 99 have been considered. Eight were rejected. Of the remaining 91, 48 were in favor of the tax and 43 were opposed.
Roughly 53 percent of provisionals that have been accepted so far have favored approval of the tax. That’s roughly the same percentage as those who voted for the tax on Election Day.
My tally now has tax supporters with 8,751 votes, or 50.5 percent, and opponents with 8,573 votes, or 49.5 percent. There are 472 provisional ballots left to be considered. The difference is 178 votes, or 1 percent.
If all provisional ballots that are left are counted – which isn’t likely – opponents will need 326 of them – almost 69 percent – to defeat the tax.
