Huerta beating Vargas in Gadsden District 1 race

With only absentee ballots left to be counted, incumbent Manuela Huerta has a commanding lead in the District 1 race for the Gadsden school board.

Out of 218 votes cast, Huerta had 166 votes, or 76 percent. Challenger Luz Vargas-Troncoso, who held the seat for seven years but was recalled several years ago, had 52 votes, or 24 percent.

There may be hundreds of absentee ballots yet to be counted in this race, so it’s not over yet.
