Las Cruces council extends manager’s contract

The Las Cruces City Council unanimously agreed Tuesday to grant a three-year contract extension and a five-percent raise to City Manager Terrence Moore.

The decision came at the end of a performance evaluation held because Moore has completed his second year as city manager, according to the Las Cruces Sun-News.

The council will formalize its decision at its Feb. 5 regular meeting.

“I am extremely impressed with city council’s unanimous support of Mr. Moore as city manager,” Mayor Bill Mattiace was quoted by the newspaper as saying. “Because of Moore’s excellent performance during his first two years, city council extended his employment contract an additional three years. This will help guarantee that many of the major projects now underway will result in successful completion under Moore’s administration.”

Mattiace made reference to the new city hall building, the aquatic center, neighborhood pools and the federal court building.

In his state of the city address last week, Mattiace referenced those projects, in addition to downtown revitalization, as tasks that can be completed, with hard work, during the current council’s tenure, and listed that as a goal. During the past two years, Moore has overseen a time of rapid growth in the city and carried out the will of a council that has approved many new growth projects.
