More than 2,300 have voted in the county

As of Monday, 2,356 people had voted in Doña Ana County. That’s about 2.5 percent of the county’s 96,246 registered voters.

According to the county, 2,317 people had voted at the Doña Ana County Government Center on Motel Boulevard in Las Cruces, which has been open for voting since Oct. 10.

Early voting at the satellite sites started Saturday, so those numbers are much smaller. On Saturday and Monday, 24 people voted at Highland Elementary on the city’s East Mesa, nine people voted at the site in Anthony, six voted at the site in Sunland Park, and none voted at the site in Hatch.

You read that right. As of Monday, no one had voted in Hatch. Come on, people.

The numbers of requested absentee ballots are higher. The county has sent 2,149 ballots to Democrats, 885 to Republicans and 386 to people registered as minor party members or independents.

Of the total number of registered voters in the county, 47,782, or 49.6 percent, are Democrats; 28,803, or 29.9 percent, are Republicans; and 19,661, or 20.4 percent, are registered as minor party members or independents.

Early voting continues through Nov. 4 for the Nov. 7 general election.
