New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson was ranked as one of the 10 most popular governors in the nation, according to the latest Survey USA job-approval poll released Tuesday.
The poll, conducted Aug. 11-13, finds a 65 percent approval rating in New Mexico for Democrat Richardson. That ties him for ninth place on the list with Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman, a Republican.
“I am pleased that a strong majority of New Mexicans approve of the direction we are taking the state,” Richardson said in a news release. “New Mexico continues to show strong economic growth across the board, which is enabling us to push for additional tax cuts for working New Mexico families, increase access to quality health care and invest in students in the classroom.”
This shouldn’t come as a surprise. We already know Richardson is popular at home, which is why most don’t expect his challenger in this year’s election, John Dendahl, to have a shot at victory. Political blogger Joe Monahan had some suggestions today for the Dendahl campaign that you can read by clicking here.
That Richardson is in the top 20 percent of governors in the nation as far as popularity in his home state is a no-brainer. He’s the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, after all. He’s clearly one of the leading governors in the nation.
The Survey USA Poll surveyed 600 adults in all 50 states; margin of error was +/- 4 percent.
