Gov. Bill Richardson is trying out a new fad in his re-election campaign: podcasting.
You can listen by clicking here to the first podcast posted on his campaign Web site. It includes a 10-minute interview with Richardson and his wife Barbara and another with the man behind The Man, Dave Contarino.
For those who don’t know, podcasts are radio (and sometimes video) broadcasts designed to be accessed through the Internet and portable electronic devices. The name comes from Apple’s iPod.
The governor’s first podcast contains only audio.
The interview is a bit long and, coming from a trained journalist, feels staged.
Obviously, that’s because it is. It’s not as though the man interviewing the governor and his wife will ask tough questions.
Anyway, the focus is on Barbara and her work with childhood vaccinations, domestic violence and literacy. The podcast is clearly designed to provide an allegedly intimate look into the personal life of the governor, as the governor and his wife tell the story of how they met and married.
“When I first met Bill, he was a tall, smart, skinny kid,” Barbara Richardson says. “… He’s still tall. He’s not the other two things.”
Future podcasts are apparently planned on the governor’s campaign Web site.
