Republican Sheriff Todd Garrison has outraised and outspent his challenger in this year’s election, Democrat Ralph Misquez.
However, Misquez has run before and already had many campaign signs.
Thus far, Garrison has raised about $13,039 and spent $11,421. Misquez has raised about $10,417 and spent $8,564.
Neither reported much activity in June, according to campaign finance reports filed Thursday. Garrison raised $200 and spent $2,308.90. Misquez raised $647.70 and spent $320.17.
Four years ago, then-Sheriff Juan Hernandez raised almost $20,000 in his successful re-election bid. He faced Misquez in the primary, and no Republican in the general election.
This is probably the most hotly contested local election this year. Though neither candidate had a primary race, their signs were the most visible during the primary election season.
