Thursday’s were the last finance reports due before next week’s primary elections.

The Center for Responsive Politics, better known as OpenSecrets.org, unveiled a new website last week that aims to help New Mexicans understand how dark money is influencing their elections.

The state-level pilot project is focused where dark money often has the greatest impact.

“While the big money in federal races sometimes makes good copy, the impact these groups can have at the state and local level is sometimes more outsized than at the federal level,” the Center writes on the homepage for the New Mexico project.

The website pulls together information from campaign finance data, tax records, nonprofit filings, TV ad buys and elsewhere for those who want to research money being spent to influence politics in New Mexico. It also includes a guide to help those who are trying to track dark money know where to look for information.

“The Center for Responsive Politics has spent years tracking dark money groups, and we want to pass our knowledge on to you,” the website states.
