State Rep. Jason Harper introduced his much-anticipated legislation to reform the state’s gross receipts tax on Wednesday.

“… two years of work! 430 pages! let’s hope it goes somewhere today,” Harper, R-Rio Rancho, tweeted after the bill was introduced.

The massive bill, which the public hadn’t seen before, is online. You can read it here.

As NMPolitics.net reported earlier Wednesday, Gov. Susana Martinez wants the bill passed as part of any deal to resolve the state’s budget standoff. But House Speaker Brian Egolf, D-Santa Fe, says the bill won’t be considered during the current special session because of its size and complexity. “It’s not fair to the legislators to ask them to vote on something they haven’t read,” Egolf said.
