Dona Horton and Malcolm Fell are an elderly Las Cruces couple. They’ve just exited the Frank O’Brien Papen Center in Mesilla Park after voting around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Both are registered Republicans.

“Clinton for me,” Fell said.
“Trump,” Horton said.
Then they laugh together on the cool morning.
“It wasn’t actually (Trump) in particular (that made me vote for him),” Horton said.
“Against Clinton is what you’re saying,” Fell responded.
“Right,” Horton said. “She had plenty of opportunity to do more and she didn’t accomplish as much as I think she should have.”
Fell believes the opposite about Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee.
“She’s done so much in her life. She wants to help people,” he said.
Fell adds that he’s tired of the Republican Party “saying ‘no’ to everything.” That causes Horton to chuckle.
“They do,” Fell said. “That’s their strategy.”
Fell doesn’t trust Trump, the GOP presidential nominee. He’s from Wisconsin and says he would have voted for Republican Scott Walker, Wisconsin’s governor, for president. Walker ran in the Republican primary against Trump and others but lost.
Horton said she would have voted for Clinton’s vice-presidential nominee, Tim Kaine, instead of Trump if Kaine had been the Democratic presidential choice.
But you can’t always get what you want in politics. So Horton went with Trump. And Fell went with Clinton.
Both see the United States facing many problems. Horton is concerned about the debt. Fell is concerned about international affairs.
Fell says differing political views don’t affect the couple’s relationship.
“We accept each other,” he said.
