Trujillo:

  • Support alternative/renewal energy jobs
  • Promote statewide “buy local” campaign on all goods and services
  • Reduce bureaucracy, cost and permitting process for environmental and sustainable energy companies that do business in New Mexico

Coss:

  • Replicate the City of Santa Fe’s “green collar jobs” program, which trains young people for high-wage jobs
  • Defend the minimum wage
  • Support affordable-housing programs
  • Close tax loopholes that benefit out-of-state corporations and hurt local small businesses
  • Upgrade roads and infrastructure to create good-paying jobs
  • Support initiatives that encourage use of green energy and energy efficiency by subsidizing interest rates for homeowners so homeowners can finance renewable energy systems for their homes at affordable rates

Education

Coss:

  • Restore the education formula
  • Support efforts to reduce class sizes so children can have more attention from teachers
  • Expand full-day kindergarten, preschool and after-school programs
  • Use early childhood education to help every child start 1st grade ready to learn
  • Provide job-skills training and education to young people not pursuing a four-year degree
  • Funding ideas: Support Sen. Peter Wirth’s proposal to require out-of-state corporations to pay fair share of taxes, increase percentage of Land Grant Permanent Fund that goes to education and discontinue tax reduction for people who earn high incomes

Trujillo:

  • Support smaller class size before 2nd grade and/or invest in after-school literacy programs (give teachers necessary tools to get job done)
  • Invest in pre-kindergarten programs for all students (income-driven programs encourage social separation)
  • Explore subsidizing child care at schools for teachers
  • Provide electronically fed college coursework from local colleges in public high schools (keep the students engaged in learning)
  • Funding ideas: Restore funding to levels from three years ago
