A new, independent poll has Democrat Martin Heinrich with a slight lead over Republican Heather Wilson in a potential U.S. Senate race matchup, and Wilson virtually tied with Democrat Hector Balderas.

The Rasmussen Reports poll has Heinrich leading Wilson 46 percent to 42 percent, with 7 percent picking “other” and 6 percent undecided. It has Wilson leading Balderas 43 percent to 42 percent, with 5 percent choosing “other” and 9 percent undecided.

Heinrich’s lead over Wilson and Wilson’s lead over Balderas are within the margin of error. The automated phone survey of 500 likely New Mexico voters, conducted Tuesday, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent.

There’s really not much change from the last Rasmussen poll conducted in February, which had Heinrich leading Wilson 45 percent to 43 percent and Wilson and Balderas tied at 44 percent apiece.

Republican Greg Sowards was not included in either survey.
