About all those false ads…

Yes, there really have been an unusually high number of false claims made by politicians in TV ads, debates, interviews, mailings and elsewhere this election cycle.

Politifact.com has been analyzing ads for three years. Here’s what the Web site had to say about this election cycle to NPR:

“In a majority of claims checked this fall by PolitiFact and our eight state partners, we found a grain of truth, but it was exaggerated, twisted or distorted.”

Ads earning a rating of “true” have fallen from a three-year historical average before Sept. 1 of 20 percent to just 10 percent since Sept. 1.
