Incumbents win in Hatch, lose in Sunland Park

Incumbents won re-election bids in Hatch on Tuesday but – with the exception of one incumbent who was unopposed – they lost in Sunland Park.

In Hatch, Mayor Judd Nordyke won re-election with 127 votes to Kathie Franzoy’s 69 votes.

And with four candidates competing for two seats on the Hatch Board of Trustees, incumbent Andy Nuñez  – who is also a state representative – was re-elected with 128 votes. Incumbent Roberto Torres was re-elected with 87 votes. Challengers Dave Sment and Joe Nuñez lost with 80 and 73 votes, respectively.

In Sunland Park, the opposite was true.

Incumbent Municipal Judge Rose Camarillo was ousted. She received 231 votes, while challenger Lizette Salinas won with 506 votes and challenger Jesus Soto lost with 104 votes.

In District 1, incumbent Elizabeth Martinez lost with 69 votes to challenger Christian Lira’s 108 votes.

In District 2, incumbent Yvette Cortez lost with 56 votes to challenger Carmen Rodriguez’s 67 votes.

The only incumbent in Sunland Park to win re-election was District 3 Councilor Annette Diaz, who ran unopposed and received 110 votes.
